Between gears @ 47-52 MPH
Between gears @ 47-52 MPH
I read on the site a lot and don't post all that often, however I wanted to know if anyone else with an '05 2500 feels like the truck is really over-working the trans at the MPH range I listed. Mine seems like the truck just isn't comfortable at that speed like it isn't running efficiently. I am a rookie diesel owner and am really happy with my truck overall.
Thanks for all the great info. I steal from the site! You all have been very helpful for someone like me that just doesn't know very much about the world of diesel!

Auto or stick ?
The inline 6 can often sound busy, but as long as you're not overrevving don't worry about it.
I usually don't listen to the radio when in a vehicle, but once in awhile would let the family listen to whatever. They'd typically like it kind of loud, and during the last vacation I can remember driving down 101 in northern CA, thinking that the truck was running kid of funny. About 20 minutes later I noticed that I was still in 4th as we had slowed down for construction earlier :^)

My truck is an auto, and shifts into overdrive right about the speeds mentioned by you. I don't have any problems, and have "learned" where the truck shifts, so I kind of have a handle on it.
It drives me up the wall with this. I have noticed that the shift to OD has changed from 45 - 47 (when only 15,000 miles) to about 47 - 52 now (23,000 miles). This is with no load, just cruising down the road taking it easy on the throttle. Revving about 1800 - 2000 in 3rd, light pedal and it will not shift until I hit 50 mph on the mark, some times about 52. Then it will shift into OD and I can slow back down to 45 - 47 and it will stay in OD without a problem. But I just wished it would kick into OD a little sooner so I don't need to speed up and then slow down to do the 45 mph speed limit. Otherwise, it just won't shift into OD for a very long time like the Computer knows, (well, I guess he isn't going to do 50 so might as well shift for him).
I feel I could be getting better MPG doing 45 in OD then 45 in 3rd. At least the RPMS drop right down some once in OD.
Changed fluids at the proper mileage and current fluid looks good and at the proper mark. Maybe I need a DTT tranny to make it shift when I want it to shift. I also feel like the TC is acting up a little? Still drives great but boy, when you get on the throttle, tranny just doesn't know what to do for the first few feet. Stay in OD but kick out of Lockup, no better to downshift into 3rd but stay locked, no, maybe go to 3rd, unlock the TC and take off but then shift quick back into OD. Just seems to jump around some times. Not all the time but some times. Like right when you want to SMOKE that little Rice Rocket or what ever...LOL (Valuable time lost while it is searching)
