I would say a good setup would be intake, box, and exhuast, there are a few potential problems all trucks have them and some people have to pay and some don't.

I agree, an intake, a less restrictive muffler or cat-back exhaust system and a mild programmer. Don't go crazy with the HP if you have an automatic transmission, until you upgrade that tranny to hold it all. Stay under 100 HP and you should be OK. There are some components in the stock system that are marginal under normal use: the fuel supply system and the turbo come to mind. And don't forget to install gauges to monitor the vitals. Even when stock, these motors are known to produce some pretty high EGTs under a load.

These truck routinely produce 260-270 RWHP in stock form. That is a bunch of power. Many are used for pulling 15K to 20K loads on a regular basis. Some of the members of this forum are pulling way above 20K with no trouble at all.

I hope you enjoy your new truck, I know I am enjoying mine.

Swap out the stock muffler before you do anything. Don't waste money on a cat or turbo back system, just replace the muffler. The stock truck already has 4" pipe from the turbo back.

Next, add a cold air intake or throw in a less restrictive air filter (I use the Amsoil EAA189).

Now would be a good time for a set of gauges, especially if you will be towing.

Finally, add some power via a module/box or a downloader.

Good luck!

Juice with Attitude module adds power and has the gauges - thats a good place to start.
