best chip for mileage
best chip for mileage
Which chip would you buy if your primary concern was trying to increase your fuel mileage while towing(5000-6000lbs)? I'm happy enough with my power at 157,000 miles, and I realize that my 04 gets better mileage than any model year since, but of course I'd like better. Currently getting about 13.2 to 13.5 per gallon on the interstate where most of my miles are run. Suggestions and recommendations and what kind of mileage increase you guys have gotten with your chips would be appreciated. Thanks
I have been running a Dr.performance stage 2 also about 85 h.p. chip #2017
I figure i get an avg. of 2 to 4 mpg more, this is watching the overhead and the fuel guage was thinking of selling it and trying something else but I have been using this chip for over 60k miles now and no problems with it so its hard to sell cause its good.. but just my opinion..My overhead on the highway fluctuates between 22 and 26 mpg depending on the weather and which diesel station i goto , some stations just have better fuel i also usually use kleen diesel every other tank to boost cetane. just stay off the gas pedal cause you will be in the single numbers real quick.

20tony20, are you running empty or loaded, what gears, and how fast? I consistently get 18 MPG on interstate driving 70 and if I slow to 65 I can get about 20 or slightly over. My truck is stock except for the slightly larger BFGs and I have 154,000 miles on it. Now in town I probably get about 13 and pulling my trailer I get 11 or 12. I use the overhead to check mileage in town but hand calculate on the highway and I thought mine was pretty typical of the 04.5.
Joe, 373 rear, pulling 5k-6k, mostly interstate 65-70 mph. Getting 13.2 on average now. If I don't have anything behind me I can average 20-22 mpg on the interstate. Like most of us, just looking for a little more without shortening overall life of the engine and tranny. Had the 1-2 hunt tsb done last week and the mechanic said my tranny and diff's looked like a truck with 50k-60k, not one with 157,000, so I don't want to mess that up.
