Bent axle or bad ball joints?????

Bought another 2006 Ram 2500 4x4 with 350k miles on it, completely stock. The only problem is that the front wheels are slanted upwards (top of the tires are slanted towards the motor). Therese so absolutely no play when I jack up the front end and try to wiggle the tire front back side to side. Can it be that the ends of the front axle are bent ( maybe the truck was driven off a ramp ) or bad ball joints jammed in that position??. Is it even possible to bend the axle to were the where the tires are slanted up? Will replacing the ball joints help or is there something else that Im missing...

Thanks

First, if it is a 4x4 (4 wheel drive), I see no way what you say is possible because the vertical wheel position is controlled by the yoke (the part that contains the ball joints) and that is welded to the axle housing. However, if it is a 2 wheel drive and you have a lift kit, it is possible if the lift kit was installed incomplete or incorrectly, as the geometry of the front suspension has been drastically altered.

I have seen front axle tubes bend and cause that problem. Usually the axle seal will start leaking on that side also. Housing will need to be replaced if that is the problem.

Adjusting camber is not easy, but is possible. It's not cheap, either, but maybe cheaper than a new axle.

At 350K miles, probably needs new ball joints anyway.

Someone may have installed adjustable ball joints, hard to tell with out taking it all apart. On the normal ball joints the shaft will be perfectly straight the adjustable ones will have a offset. If the axle tube is bent you may be able to adjust some of it out with adjustable ball joints but the axle seals will never hold up.

It is a 4x4 completely stock. Yeah the seals at either end do leak oil. How is it possible to bend the axle housing with stock wheels and on road driving. If it was a rock crawler I'd understand haha, I think I'm going to replace the ball joints and see if it helps. I'll keep you guys posted. Cheers.

Has me curious as well....surely with the tires going the direction you say, the inside treads should be wearing badly!!! My inside treads started wearing funny and the truck would wander on the road but I didn't have any major movement in the wheel with the tire off the ground. Did balljoints and updated steering system and it drives like a new truck now.

Hopefully balljoints are your only problem.

Given that you mention the leaking axle seals, there is a good chance the axle tube is bent/damaged.

if the truck went off the road and jumped a ditch it would bend the axle tubes for sure, seen that happen. even on stock trucks.
