Optima is not worth the money except in unusual circumstances. Unlees you want to mount the battery in the cab, or sideways, then buy from Sears.

I installed the P2s this year & they work well - of course it will take a lot more years to really tell.

I paid about $130 each - if you can stand to wait and watch for Sears' sales (worth signing up for Sears' sale emails IMO - this year i had to buy 7 batteries (3 cars plus 2 each for the truck & the travel trailer) so I was motivated to watch the sales....). Can't wait for the kids to take over maintenance for their cars. :-)

The true AGM P2 platinums are better than the Optimas in every aspect, especially the one you mention. The are built by a military supplier for military use. Vibration resistance and being able to be mounted in any orientation are why AGM is a superior design.

Just got 2 top of the line Les Schwab batteries installed. Cost me about $250. We will see if they can live up to their name.

Consumer Reports rates the Sears P2's as top of the line.

Call me crazy, but Im all about Walmart Maxxx batteries. They are $75, 3 year replacement, 8 year pro rate. Thats about the same warranty as the AGM thats 3 times the price. It sucks to replace batteries but I know people that replace them at walmart every 2-3 years and they are always free.

I don't have any special requirements so I went with the Johnson Controls version (a little better than OE). Made in Mexico, sold on the west coast by Pep Boys, Kragen, Auto Zone and Costco. The WalMart Maxx version is by Johnson also, but for the some reason is only rated at 700 or750 CCA, can't remember. The others are 850 CCA, so I bought mine at Costco for $74.99 ea. They're $105.00 at the other places.

Why not just replace with OEM? Mine have lasted 6 years so far... and still counting. I feel the same way about the brakes.

I've been thinking about some Sears Diehard Platinums too, when I replace mine. But my OEM batteries are 6.5 years old and going strong for now. May consider going back to them.

The only problem with thinking this lasted 5 or 6 years, I 'll buy the same is - you don't know what has changed. Suppliers and materials can change drastically over a couple year period. My example would be Optima batteries. I have a set last 9 years. Doing research, I find post after post of how they are not nearly as good as they were in the past.

I would say no matter what you buy, make sure they have a decent warrenty. Myself, I will spend the extra money for piece of mind that I will not end up sitting somewhere because my truck won't start.
