ball joint tools
OTC 6530
About $500-$600 from NAPA for the complete set. Has a bunch of stuff you probably won't use.
This Princess Auto kit will get you part way there, then find some thick wall pipe with the right ID and make up your own adapters.

A big hammer and a good heavy punch/dowel work well for pounding them out.

No special tools required. In fact those "special tools" often cause damage. Tapered joints, ball joints, bar ends, whatever is best removed using two LARGE hammers. One as a backing and the other used to strike the element with the tapered hole. This shock will distort the tapered hole and the male element will just pop out, no strain, no pain and no damage. Try it, you'll like it!
