bad start when cold
bad start when cold
i have an 04 and when its cold out like in the mornings i say cold but i mean in th 40's my truck starts horrible as soon as i turn the key it starts it just doesnt seem right to me
Could be that the air heater isn't working for some reason, fuseable links at battery or heater relay, if your not a do it yourselfer you may want a shop to check it out , if you want to look at it then it would help to have a wiring diagram , keep asking ??? here and you should get what you need.
Do you have a test light ? If not you can make one with a 12v light bulb, look at the intake manifold and look for 2 large wires on top of the man. and under the intake tube coming from the turbo , touch the test light to either conector and look for the lite , if not then you need to find out about the relays and or fusable links .
Once you start it, your volt meter will drop and then cycle back to normal volts. There is also a click that is associated with the relay that is audible as the yellow curly cue light goes out. If it's working properly then your volt meter will cycle letting you know that the circuit is fine. The element may not work but it wouldn't be drawing as much current so you would be able to tell by just watching the volt meter and lights dimming on startup. These trucks will run rough and smoke a little on cold starts, just the nature of these beasts. If you like, plug it in during colder nights and that will make a big difference. I have been plugging mine in for about 2 months now. I bought a digital 1700 watt timer at the hardware store and programmed it to come on for three hours before I leave each morning. It works great.
