70 mph with 12K in weight towing, with low miles... you're lucky you got that good of mileage in my opinion. I have over 185,000, use every synthetic lube you can use to cut friction, buy fuel additive and have a few electronics to help with my mileage and when I hook onto our gooseneck 3-axle I'm lucky to squeeze 15-17 mpg and that's running the speedlimit (55 here in Kalifornia) on level ground!
Granted, I can get a bunch more mpg empty on flat ground running the same way but we're talking towing here.
Wait until you get about 80K miles then it'll start coming around on fuel mileage. Between 75K and 125K I picked up about 3 mpg.
just hang in there. It gets better, and slow down a bit, you'll be amazed how much the air you're pushing sucks the fuel.
