Now you guys made me think the Easter bunny took my marbles so I went out and tried backing with the door open and belt off again. The first 2 times no horn! The next time I had the horn and lights!

Mirrors are great for straight backing, but when or you are jack knifing a long trailer all you see is trailer. Not much good for watching tree limbs or with rain covered or fogged mirrors.

Back to the drawing board!

all you need to do is put a scotch lock on the wires under your seat connected to the seatbelt. It will ground out and the computer will think your seatbelt is buckled.

Thanks anyway for getting rid of that chime . I should read thru the manual again too. I hated to buckle the belt just to launch the boat at the ramp. Too bad the backup alarm is still there. I am almost use to the backup alarm, just not to excited about putting the scotch lock on.

I'm pretty sure that this feature isn't a user definable option... Considering there were some lawsuits about this problem. I was palying with my truck the other day and tried setting the emergency brake down slightly and let off the brake with the door opened and the horn still went off. That feature is good for clearing curious young horses away from taking a bite of my new truck though!!!!..
The only way I can back up with the door open is to drive it two footed, but that doesn't seem natural...hahaha..

IF you were looking to disable the horns you can simply run the horn grounds through a toggle switch. You'll still have to put up with the flashing lights, but at least you can kill the horn. If you look near where your hood suport strut is on the drivers side you'll see a large ground point. The black/orn and black lght/blu wire are the grounds from the horn. It's my understanding that people have cut these wires, connected them together to a single wire that leads to a toggle switch in the cab and then grounded to the metal knee bolster support under the dash. It's also my understanding that it works without any ill effects. Of course I've never done this as it has huge liability concerns.

Ditto, I did this no more red seatbelt light on the dash no more horn honks or chimes. Works better then anything. Sometimes you just need to back up an inch to hook to a trailer and dont feel like putting on your belt or fully closing the door, thats when I got the horn honk and people looking at me like im stupid !

Flying ram, YOU ROCK!! that is a compliment by the way. I just did this and the annoying horn BS went away. both in D and R with the seatbelts on and off. When do they issue the Nobel peace prize?

why not just defeat the seatbelt interlock so that the truck ALWAYS thinks the seat belt is hooked up?

No more unhappy campers when I'm backing up into camp late at night! From Page 41 of the '06 Owner's Manual - Enhanced Driver Seat Belt Reminder System (BeltAlert)

The BeltAlert can be activated or disabled by your authorized dealer or by the following steps: NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or START position. DaimlerChrysler does not recommend deactivating the Enhanced Warming System (BeltAlert).

1) With all doors closed and the ignition in any position except ON or START, buckle the driver's seat belt.

2) Start the engine and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.

3) Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then rebuckle the driver's seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.

4) Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated by repeating the procedure.

NOTE: Although the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Warning Light will continue to illuminate while the driver's seat belt remains unbuckled.

I think Ill try this
