b100 ?
b100 ?
I can get b100 pretty cheap through a family member who works for some enviro-fuel place. Question is, can I run 50/50 diesel/bio? Or even b100? They use it for fleet service trucks, bigger than mine, so i'm thinking it shoud be ok, but what are some drawbacks? I searched, but most of the post's were old and I imagine the process of making it has gotten better in the last couple years.. what should i be on the lookout for? What questions should i ask about the process of how they make it?
Things I'd worry about. Warranty still intact? If so B100 could void it. Also the drop in fuel efficiency (mileage) might be noticeable, I tried some B20 and lost about 15% mileage. It will clean out your fuel system and could cause filter plugging for the first few tanks. BUT if the price is right why not otherwise...

I've ran B100. Lost 4mpg and a little oompf off the line. Cruising down the highway, I couldn't tell any power difference. B20 doesn't lose me any mileage. If you come out cheaper even with MPG loss, then you are still saving money. Having a spare filter would be wise. Due to the solvent nature of biodiesel, the possibility of cleaning the vehicle fuel tank and fuel lines is true. Lot's of variables can easily change this though. If the #2 you had been using was clean and you filled often, your system is far less likely to be dirty. If you do have to change the filter earlier than normal, by the second filter you should be back on normal schedule. I have ran any where from B1 to B100 and have never have had to change my fuel filter any more than normal. I have always used retail bio. I now have 145,000 miles on my truck. I didn't start running bio until around the 40,000 mile mark.
I've been running B100 home brew for 3years now. Gotta Love it
Yes you will need to carry a wrench and filter with you if you go straight B100 from the start. The stuff will clean the tank and leave it all in the filter. Start with 5-10 gallons in a fresh tank of fuel. do it for 2 tanks, then increase th eamount of Bio for about 2 tanks then continue doing this untill you feel 100% bio is OK. Y may still need to change the filter while doing this. Also because it is getting colder get some Antigel/Deicer and keejp it in the truck. You will also need to add some sort of Cold Flow improver during the winter or just add about 7 gallons of regular diesel with every Bio fillup. Other than that you should be OK. I run it straight with AMSOIL Cold Flow Improver but it rarely gets below freezeing here.
The smell is just AWESOME
