stick is available with a jake brake... A huge plus for me. even though I have an auto. I would never give up my slushie in traffic. My knee gets sore enough working the brake and throttle. All a matter of preference. If you tow alot stick it. If not, slush it!!

I'm guessing this is an 05 you're talking about. Which 6 speed? The NV (reverse is top right) or the G56 (reverse is bottom left)?

im going to look at them tommorow i think its the hd six speed. i dont tow all that often but i will be next year, its only going to be like 3500 pounds though, so i know both trannys will handle that with no problem. when i tow its all going to be local and in town towing. yes an 05. i just want to know that the auto is going to hold up and no be in the shop all the time for trans issuses.

With what you said you will tow, go with the auto. I have the stick and wouldn't give it up even if I didn't tow. This probably didn't help you much.

3500lbs is not towing. Throw that thing in the bed and move on. 13.5K, now that's towing. Add a mountain road and then you need to worry about auto vs manual. Juice the truck up and you add several other variables. Stock, the thing will hold. The new 48RE will not give up at what you are talking about. I don't think the POS MB 1/2ton tranny would caugh at what you are towing.

some times i wish my 05 had a stick in it. It seems when i drive my 03 i pay attention to my driving. I drift in and out of my lane day dreaming.

if you are planning to hot rod it, go with the 6speed. you just really cant speed shift it though. too much mass slinging around in there.

I dont have to shift all that much. start is 2nd all the time. once it hits 6th, it stays there unless I have to go around curves slower that 50, even towing my 9k trailer. plus put the exhaust brake on it, make it smoke, loose the muffler, and shift alot...... hell you almost got a freightliner there.

I only plan on doin some small mods along the line of, silencer ring removal, bhaf, strait pipe, and maybe in the future the power pup programer from bully dog. so not too much in power mods. but i still dont know if i should buy the auto or manual? its going to be my work truck i am a contractor, i install doors all day, so its going be drivin alot, mostly in communitys and areas that have a mix of city driving and highway driving. so i guess the big questions are, with the auto am i going to have a bunch of problems with it, and am i going to regret not buying the availible six speed?

If you don't plan on keeping the truck, or if you plan on keeping it and don't mind dumping thousands (?) into it down the road, get the auto as they're obviously easier to drive, especially for others. Just remember that autos these days seem to be as complicated as engines, so you're doubling the number of sensors, wiring harnesses, actuators, etc.

I have the 5 speed and didn't even consider the auto.
