ATS Junk

I had ATS install their stage 3 transmission package in my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4. My stock transmission had 105,000 mile on it pulling a 5th wheel and other heavy loads most of its life and I was getting nervous about how long it would last. The ATS transmission was a problem from the beginning. At the time I owned a 5th wheel and the first time I went to pull it the stall was so low I could not get the rig to move. I took the truck back to ATS and they reworked the torque convertor while having the truck for 3 days. This was repeated at least 4 times before they got the stall correct for towing. From day one I had problems getting the shift lever to go into and out of the park position. I was told that due to the new parts in the transmission that it was tight and would improve over time. It did not improve. Also the 5 star torque convertor was quite noisy and I was told that was due to the multiple discs and was normal. Shortly after I felt the transmission was as good as it could be I pulled the 5th wheel to AZ, lived it for a while and sold the 5th wheel. Since that time the truck has been my daily driver and only occasionally has pulled a 6,000 lb. trailer. I do not hot rod or run the truck hard at all. While pulling my 6,000 lb trailer the other day the “billet” input shaft broke causing other transmission damage with 54,000 miles on the transmission. I called ATS and was told “no warrantee” on the shaft. I took the truck to a local diesel repair shop and was told the transmission had a 47 input from a gas truck. I called ATS again and was told their billet shaft was smaller diameter as it had to flex. The repair shop had ordered an ATS billet input for another customer and it measured .140” larger in diameter than my broken one. ATS claimed that was not possible. When they took my ATS torque convertor to a local convertor rebuild shop they snickered as they see so many bad ATS convertors. They found a bent plate inside of the convertor. Now that the truck is back together with a SONNAX input the transmission shifts in and out of park much better, the torque convertor is quieter and it performs as it should have from the beginning. ATS I believe scammed me and there warrantee is worthless especially when their transmission did not last ˝ as long as stock under much lighter towing use.

I wasted a lot of time and money with them. If I can save someone else the cost and hassle I would like to do so. Between what I paid ATS and to have someone else to fix their junk I spent over $9,000 in just over 50,000 miles.

I had a ATS transmission BUT I used goerend torque converter, not one simple problem EVER, I put 200,000 miles on it, and towed some seriously over weight, like semi truck weight..lol
