ARB Locker

I am thinking of putting an ARB locker in the rear of my 2004 truck. My concern id that they run on air pressure
Will this blow out my seals and casue leaks?

ARB is not available for the 11.5 yet. Maybe in 07.

When installed properly, they work well....without any of the problems you brought up.

They will someday need O-rings replaced as they don't last forever.

I'm not convinced they will withstand the torque over time.

I think the ARB is up to the task of handling the torque. In my opnion the ARB and the Detroit locker are the strongest made. It may fail because it loses air pressure, but I don't think you'll brake the mechanics of one.

You are right about the Detroit.

The ARB on the other hand is weak, and in my opinion is only suitable for front use.....unless the rear axle is way oversized for the application.

I repair this stuff daily. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing people spend the kind of money that ARB, wants only to have it explode on the first outing.

The air locker was designed for clutch in/clutch out applications. When people are hard core offroading, there are some situations where you need to disengage your locker (mostly the front). Before air lockers(or Elockers) people would unlock their hub. These selectable lockers are mainly used for the front axle application. Driving on asphalt with a front locker on is horrable, its almost as bad as no power steering. You said you are looking in installing a locker into your rear. I would not recommend using the air locker unless you already have onboard air or planning on installing adjestable air bags. Having a locker in the rear isnt that much of a pain. When you do make slow turns you will hear your back tires skip or your locker disengage but its not that bad. Anything at higher speeds you wont know the differance. my over all recommendation is the detroit classic locker. I have heard that lockers arnt made for the new american axles yet, but i havnt done any research to prove that.

I disagree, I also build and repair these daily.
I've seen more broken detriots then ARB.
Heck the only broken ARB's I have ever seen are in Dana 30 and 35's.
A detriot will brake 90% of the time when an axle shaft fails.

ARB= air leaks all day long!!! silanoids not working when you want, and it takes high psi to keep it locked in. 60-90psi

I hate ARB's I had nothing but bad luck with the two I owned.

I like the OX locker for a selectable locker but I don't know if they offer it for new dodge axles??

Edit- I just checked the website they only do up to a Dana 60

My understanding is the ARB is all that is available for the 2500 with 3.73. Can I get a Detroit locker for that ?

Neither are available for the 11.5 AAM rear axle axle. They may be available for the 10.5 AAM rear axle but that was early 03 SO model trucks with autos only.

locker for 06's

I talked to a guy a couple of weeks ago from Randys Ring and Pinion, and they have an electric locker availble for 06's. I assume thats the same as 03-05. with the shipping and install kit, I would have had about $1000 in it. The man also told me, that like the detroit e-locker, if you lose electrical power, the locker could be locked up with an allen wrench.

After reading Doug60's post, I checked the ARB site. Yep, 2007 for the rear locker
BUT
The front locker, for the 9.25, is out!

Doug, There is no e-locker for the rear. Only for the front and it requires a lot of grinding. Many posts on this. Let me know if things have changed and I'm now wrong but this is what I remember.
