Another Lubricity question...sort of
Hi guys,
With all the discussions regarding lubricity of the fuel, the Spicer test of the additives, etc, failing injectors, I have a couple questions regarding additives and lubricity.
1. Has any additive that people have used that is a demulsifier (like opti-lube) caused water to show up in their stock fuel filter canister? My water in fuel light has never come on and some believe that is because the in tank lift pump just emulsifies the water by churning it back into the fuel too well. This could be a cause of injector failures if a lot of water is going through?
2. Would diesel fuel that goes through a secondary 2 micron filter get a better wear scar score (like the scoring in spicers test on additives) than the same fuel only going through just the 7 micron fuel filter? Basically, does finer filtration result in better lubricity in any way by removing larger odd shaped particles. (kind of like how group 3 "synthetic" oils are just further refined petroleum and end up with better lubricity)

Just beware that not all fuel filters strip out water as well as the Fleetguard or Baldwin filter nor can they hold as much dirt as the Baldwin filter can. BTW, the Baldwin PF 7977 is a 5 micron filter, Fleetguard Stratapore is 7 and many on the market are 10 micron filters. Anyway starting in 2006 Cummins wants us to be using a 7 micron or smaller fuel filter.
