Am I right?
Am I right?
Can someone tell me if I did this right?I removed I hope what was the silencer ring.I removed the air intake hose at the turbo.Right inside of the front of the turbo was a snap ring that I removed and right behind it was a round metal thing with a hole in the center( I would guess to get air in the turbo) and I removed it as well.I can hear the turbo whistle alot louder now.Can the turbo be damaged running this way??It looked to me like this silencer ring directs the air to the fins at the center. Just don't want to screw anything up.
Thanks

you did it right. there's nothing else in there you could have removed.
IIRC, others that looked into why it's there found to was just another thing in the exhaust system to make the diesel more quite. It's has no benefit in or out other than that.
I wondered the same thing when I took mine out. It's shaped like the housing it's in and looks like it would help the air have a more smooth transition going into the turbo. My guess is, that's why the turbo is louder... the air is moving more violently through the turbo.

There is nothing to be gained by removing this ring!! It is installed to quiet the "jet noise" or whine created by the turbo pulling air into the vanes. There are also buffles inside the stock intake tube that quiet this noise a little. If you install an after-market intake tube (AFE type, Stage II), the noise is also louder than stock. Bottom line: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!
