Do I need to re-read the manual?

My neighbor came over today to tell me he got his S10 stuck in the mud in my field and asked if I could pull him out (it's ok, I go in his fields too). I said sure and we took the Dodge. It was pretty soft and so I locked it into 4 wheel low and went into the field. I didn't have any trouble pulling him out, but when I came out of the field the truck wouldn't go back into 2 wheel (or anything else) without grinding big time. It didn't matter if I was stopped, in park, in neutral..whatever. I finally had to just shut it off altogether to shift it out of 4 wheel. That doesn't seem right. I have an old toyota 4Runner that goes in and out on the fly if you want.

What am I missing?

 

You might find sometimes you have to back up a little bit, to take the torque load off between the axles so the transfer case can shift...

 

Moving slightly helps sometimes.

 

That is odd, I have never had that problem. Like said above, make sure there is no weight on the truck, i.e., on an incline, ect., when you try to shift out. If it still does it I would get it checked, not normal.

 

Do you have the push button 4wd system or the manual shifter?
