Am I correct to think that any chip voids the warranty

I have an '05 2500 and wanted to make sure that I was correct in thinking that adding any kind of chip would void the warranty.

I am not planning on adding a chip, I just don't need one at this time. However, a fifth wheel may be in my future and I wanted to know some of my options, outside of a new '06 diesel!!!

Thanks

Jason

I think thats a safe statement to say.

Some dealers are more accomodating than others, and I've heard that some even install power adding chips - they would probably honor the warranty. It wouldn't hurt to call them and ask - disguise your voice first....

As a matter of fact, I think that even thinking about adding chip to your truck will void your warranty. 1stTimeAround......WARRANTY DENIED !!!

Really though, I've read of instances where 4x4 trucks were denied warrany work because the service department found evidence of mud in the engine bay. If they'll deny a 4x4 for getting in mud, you can sure bet they'll deny your motor warranty with a chip.

You got to be willing to take the risk, if you are gonna add a chip.

the legal and moral answer is yes, adding a performance chip to you truck violates the warranty, mostly because it exceeds the design stresses of some components. Adding power to your rig runs the risk of damaging something because of it. Some dealers are more understanding. my local one is not, but I did take the truck back to where I bought it, and prior to work told them I had something on the truck, they just asked me to unhook it prior to them doing anything. no problems there.

Some dealers will find any reason to attempt voiding the warranty. Whether there is a valid reason or not. Some dealers just plain stink, some are cooperative, I guess it depends on your dealer, and your relationship with that dealership.

I think the dealers just don't want to work on diesels so that's why most of them will try to get out of it any way they can. I tried to get some work done at a local dealer and they flat out told me they didn't have anyone competent enough to work on diesels! It's the wave of the future so they better start training these people.......

I would rather them say that up front then have some hack mess wth it that has no clue. It does suck that they can't work on a product they sell but atleast they were upfront about it.

EXACTLY!.... In "theory" aren't diesels "simpler" than their gasser counterparts?........ just how hard would it be to train the gas monkey to wrench a diesel..... For the preimum we pay for the CTD they should be kissing our feet.....
