the alternator bracket is supplied with the engine by Cummins to the vehicle assembly plant, how does it not have anything to do with the motor?

I could see the alternator being a 3/36 as it is supplied by DC and put on the engine at the vehicle assembly plant.

I think we agree that it should be covered either way, so it doesn't really matter.

I am 100% positive that the bracket (not the actual alternator) comes on the engine when the engine is shipped from Columbus Indiana to Saltillo Mexico to be put in a truck.

I just checked and sure enough it’s cracking. I will get one ordered and put it on my self. Is there an aftermarket bracket I should look at?

I spend the entire day looking it over, it looks really clean, and there seems to be much more room than a v8 to work in. It sure is a monster engine though! I am finally getting used to the way it drives; it is so much different than a gasser.

Mine is starting to show cracks. I will be taking it in before the 3/36 is up.

But it doesn't really matter, since DC buys them with no warranty and supplies the warranty themself. In that case, they can cover or not cover whatever parts they please...

Since you want to be technical, that would be against the law and you could sue them for not honoring an explicitly written warranty.

Where in the written warranty does it say that the alternator bracket is covered under the engine warranty? That's the point, some parts are open to interpretation... DC's interpretation. Luckily, most people don't have a problem getting a new bracket for free, but in other scenarios DC has proven to be less than ready to admit their guilt.

Hey Commando,

I'm in Santa Fe, NM and was wondering what dealer your getting this grief from? I want to make sure my first trip for warranty work isn't a bummer.

I just replaced my alternator bracket, the difference is ridiculous! The original is just a piece of steel bent to make a bracket. The new one is a nice piece of forged steel. I don’t think this one will be breaking any time soon.

On my 03 it was replaced under recall. It was under 36000 miles when they did it.
Early build date 03 had a tsb.

They would not do it for free so I payed the dam 80 bucks for it and installed it my self. I wish I had the TSB so I could go get my money back.
