I know you don't want to oil but I've ran AFE dry and out here in the desert too much dirt got by. So I went with True flow drop in and it filter much better.

IMO, it is not worth the effort to run the oiled filters. I have had plenty of them. I actually have had a True Flow because I figured that the design is similar to my dirt bike filters which are run in the dirt, so it would most likely filter very well. I got tired of dealing with the cleaning aspect of it and read that unless your pushing over 450 hp it is not necessary. So I went back to stock filters. Geno's has them for about 12 buck or so.

If AFE is your choice, the Proguard 7 filters the best of their filters...they also offer prefilters.

I do not reccomend the ProDry S filter. It bypasses fine dust at where the top of the air box sits on the filter.

I have notified AFE on several occasions and sent them a lot of pictures showing the fine dust.
AFE sent me a new air filter said it was an upgrade, which was not true, it was the exact same as I had. Said it was a new design, however, did the same bypass of fine dust.

Just my experiance with AFE Pro Dry S.

Good luck

Why not just buy a Amsoil Nano drop in as it can be cleaned with air?

Just stick with a Fleetguard or Wix changed at 10K intervals. Save your money for something else.

I went with an aftermarket Volant Powercore intake, pretty happy a few months into it. No oiling and far superior filtration. It uses a larger filter that has similar technology to the OEM Ford and Chevy filters.

I've read that the stock air box is good to 500 h.p. Just stick with the Fleetguard/Mopar filters and save your money on a worth while upgrade. I've read so many story's of people with aftermarket filters having fine layers of dust on the inside of the intake tube. Nothing is going to filter like the stock filter, just stick with it and you'll be fine.

I agree with that. There's an article in dieselpowermag i think about aftermarket intake systems with their "high flow" filters compared to stock. The results were that the stock air box and filter couldn't be improved upon and in most cases flowed better than aftermarket.

I can't make any claims other than my personal experience but........
On my 03 with the Smarty and Dr P on kill I could pull the filter minder down with the stock paper element.
After switching to a AFE progaurd 7 drop in and opening the bottom of the air box with a 1" hole saw the filter minder never moved again.
From my experience it doesent take much to exceed the limit of the stock set-up

Thats the link to the air box article. Maybe one day they'll do the same dyno testing with a modified engine.
