Air Control Valve issues
My 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with 5.9 recently threw a code triggering the dreaded check engine light. Steal-R-ship says its because the Fram Oil Filter I used the last oil change was leaking (not spots on my drive..hmmmm) and that fouled the air control valve and ruined it. Charged me $219 for a new one and ordered it. Will charge another $39 to install.
I get the uneasy feeling I'm getting screwed here. Anyone had experience with the air control valve.....would exterior oil leaking cause it to fail and be ruined? Is $219 a fair price (I'm sure its not) or should I tell them to cancel the order and go find one myself somewhere else and install it?
Not quite 34K on this truck and this has been the first hiccup....I usually use WIX filters so I guess I could not find one last change....I don't recall.
TIA!!!

I smell fish....
if you cycle the key on and off three times (not far enough to start) what code does it give you?? yes the fram filters have problems, and can come apart internally clogging oil nozzles and voiding warranty, but leaking was not one of them. Any filter could leak on top if not tightened enough or missing seal, but you could see that easy. Sounds like they are using the fram thing as an excuse to not warranty it because they are not an approved filter.
i'm not even sure what the air control valve is, but i doubt it was ruined by the fram, which they need to prove before i would pay for anything if under 36k warranty. did they mean mass air flow sensor?

My dealer who sold it to me fixed the faulty air control valve (mounts on the turbo) under warranty....laughing about how there was no oil on the wire or anything else. But he is an hour away so for a quick code analysis I had taken it into the local Steal-R-Ship which lived up to its reputation....buncha crooks. All is well now...
Get that Fram off of there. Install a Fleetguard or Mopar(which is a fleetguard) oil filter, change oil, and call it a day. What they said makes no sense. Do all this stuff yourself if you can.
