aghhh...can' get my tire off...
After reading this thread, I thought I better see if I can get mine off the truck. Well wouldn't you know it, after removing the lugnuts they were on there really tight. Had to climb under the truck and kick as hard as I could, a number of times, before they broke loose. I removed all the crud and applied anti-seize to the wheels and hub flanges, before I reinstalled them. My truck has only gone through one winter and we get very little snow and not much road salt. I am sure glad I checked them, it would be a real pain to be stuck beside the road trying to get a wheel off.
Your next purchase should be some antisieze compound. Then you won't need the sledge. When I bought my DRW, I had read that several guys were battling removal of the wheels. I popped them off the week I got it home and put antisieze on the hub and wheels. No problems since.
well.....the tire is off. FINALLY. alas, the shop did it for me, so it is kind of a bittersweet victory, the tires off, but I was not the one to do it. oh well.
the shop said they used a big rubber sledge, so that will be the next purchase for me, and I will just keep that in the truck.

Here is the nice plastic faced hammer I use at work.

Also note that once you beat the snot out of them to get the rim off with this lovely hammer you should break out the dremel with the wire brush attachment and clear all the muck off the rims and hubs. A "generous" coat of antiseize is next in line for it. You think that one rim is bad try a dually

I had the same thing happen to me on the side of I-10 in the middle of a downpour in Mississippi. Luckily I had jack stands in my toolbox, so I just set it on them and crawled under the truck and kicked the tire off. Took quite a bit of kicking but I got it off, then limped it to a truck stop and got the lug nuts torqued.

I want that hammer, that thing is awesome.
as far as tourque, in my chilton manual it calls for 135 ft-lbs on models 04 and earlier, for 2005 and up it calls for: 2500-145 ft lbs 3500-155 ft lbs.

thanks ian, a buddy of mine thought it was 140 lbs ... he uses one of those torque-sticks ... sounded like alot to me but I guess not. I thought maybe that's why they were so hard to get off when I put my winter steels on.
oh and did anybody mention anti-sieze?
