aghhh...can' get my tire off...

so this happened a few months ago too....I cant get my left rear tire off.

I have done everything: WD 40, kicked the tire, 2x4 across the tire and beat it with a sledge, tryed to pry (carefully), tried raising it then dropping it with the jack, tried rolling foward then stomping the brakes....

anything else guys? I would really like to get this thing off sometime in the next few hours.

thanks.

Put a small hydraulic jack between the spring and rim. Should actually come off pretty easy that way. Use a 2x4 block on the opposite side if you need to.

I had the same problem with both backs and the jack slipped them off with little effort.

Don't forget anti-sieze when you put them back on.

yeah. this is ridiculous. I dont have a small enough hydraulic to put in behind the tire, and I dont have a big enough sledge.

runnin out of ideas.

Do you have a Hi-Lift Jack or a come-a-long? If so, find a pole or something solid. Park next to it. Wrap a chain or strap around it and another chain or strap around or through the wheel. With the Hi-lift or come-a-long in between both chains or straps, start winching. Just be sure to be winching in the proper direction.

sorry I forgot to post that attempt too. I used a recovery strap on the rim and a chain around the trunk of a tree. maybe I will try two chains now.

If you're pulling only from the top or bottem or either side, it'll bind up. Maybe two equal lenght straps are needed just for the wheel. Attach on either the top and bottem or either side. Then hook the two to one piont. That way you're evenly pulling.

man oh man.

so I tried that, but the thing is so tight, it just pulls the truck.....I give up for now, I will just have to keep them half rotated till tomorrow when I can have someone put it on a lift and beat it with a sledge.

in my mind it is sensless to have a problem like that!
what do you do if you have a flat on the interstate?
do you call a tow truck and pay to have it taken to a shop?
if i had that problem, once i got it off i would take a little metal off the center hole with a file.... end of problem

Loosen the lug nuts and drive up and down your driveway a few times, if you have turn or two even better.

Too bad you don't have a hydraulic jack to fit, it does work well. I had no problem after putting on some anti-sieze the first time. Second time they came off clean and easy. I like the tight fit but a bit of chemistry knowledge explains why steel and an alloy weld together under pressure.

Can you use the hydraulic jack you have and go to another point further away with a block or length of 4x4? May take two people though. I hope you haven't beaten on the axle face or you are in for serious trouble from the face expanding.

Hydraulics are your friend if you can make your euipment work.

Cya and good luck
