adding a block heater- Done it ??? Hard ??

none of the trucks I looked to buy in 05 had the block heater option and it ticked me off because it was only like $10 as an option.
I THOUGHT about adding one just to get quicker heat in the truck.
anyone added the block heater? other than the anti-freeze mess is it hard to do? I am NOT mechanically challenged but I always ask first.
what part numbers are needed? , thanx , DAVE

The heater is there, just aft of the oil filter. All you need is the cord P/N 251919 at any Cummins parts place. The cord was the option, not the heater.

not all trucks have the block heater. is says in my manual that its there, but its not. I took it both to my cummins dealer and the dealership. they are fighting me right now saying that its a option. I told them the cord is a option and my truck is suppose to have the heater from factory. this was over the phone so when i go to the dealership I am going to wave that book in their faces.

All the Cummins engines come with the Block Heater Element installed in the block. Remove your air intake hose, and just behind the oil filter housing, under the manifold is a Black Plastic cap....My dealership tried to tell me it was a dummy plug!

Oh wow, why didnt I think of this...

Yes I looked, and no its not there...in its place is a metal cap (looks galvanized) with nothing coming out of it, or nothing to plug into it.

Have you tried to remove the cap? That is where the cord screws into. You'll need to remove the oil filter to get at it. Can you post a picture of it?

If theres only a freeze plug there, then ya don`t have a block heater installed(which is very strange, but...). You don`t have to pull the filter though, I just removed the stock intake pipe and you can get right to it from the top. Plug in the cord and drop it down to the bottom of the truck, then slide underneath and route it to the front and your done. The cord even comes with the holders already on it to hold it to the frame.

Sevir....if you really don't have the heater then I suspect that the dealer who sold the truck stole the heater or you have a rebuilt engine.

2004.5 2500 2WD, K&N and straight threw exhaust. A-pillar gauge(boost, transtemp,FP) Edge juice w/attitude, ROKKtech advance sensor, circulating coolant heater and more to come...

Sevir, your signature says you have a circulating coolant heater. Did you install it or did the dealer? Did you buy your truck new or used?
