I am thinking I want to remove my muffler and leave the cat in place. How much louder is this? Is there a significant drone at any rpm or when towing? Does it sound better or just "louder"? I have read all the posts on this subject I could find but still don't have a real definitive answer.

on my 05 i lost the muffler, kept the kitty. its louder, and IMO sounds good. its GREAT unloaded, but towing, i get tired of it after a couple hours on the road. that said, traveling alone its ok, even towing, but if the Mrs is in the car, you have to talk a little louder. basically, its fine 95% of the time, but if you're towing home on sunday...and maybe slightly nursing a hangover....u may miss ur muffler.

 

So is it a lot louder under load? Is there a droan or just louder? Sorry for all the questions but I'm heading over to the school bus compound where they will do it for free. I was going to do it today but I may see about putting it off a day or so in the hopes of hearing more responses from folks who have the delete now. My real worry is that The wife and kids(and maybe even me) may not like it pulling the 26' boat or fifth wheel.

before i put stacks on my truck i had the stock pipes minus cat and muffler. it was louder. It does have a little drone to it but it is not so much that it drives you crazy.

 

I deleted mine. Wife didn't even notice. I pull a 6k lb travel trailer and it isn't too loud for my wife to sleep on the way home on Sundays....

Well here is my 2 cents I removed the muff kept the kitty went with the 4inch to a 4 inch T ran the two 4 inch pipes to each side put two 90s going up on each side and went into 5 inch stacks right behind the cab, with this set up i love the way it sounds and on the hwy at 70 does not sound any louder than my old gaser with flow masters and we have been to missippi twice all over louisiana,been to texas and went to wisconsen and back, and the boss (wife) never lost a wink.But with any opinion what I and my wife might like or put up with might be to much for someone else,now dont get me wrong if i want to i can open it up an it does sound off but at 2500 rpm and under she sounds sweet to me..above that sounds like a big KW or peter built.

 

I love the way it sounds. I towed 7500-8000lb last week and there was just the smallest amount of drone while I pushed the truck really hard going up a hill. I was trying to see how high my EGTs would go. I never would have pushed the truck that hard under normal circumstances. I had absolutely no drone when I drove the truck normally....

 

Haven't had a chance to tow with mine removed yet, but I love the way it sounds! Can hardly notice a difference until I step on it. No drone on the highway at 70mph.
