My 6 is a little Clunky to shift but then it only has 600 or so miles on it.

I have read that putting on some miles and a fluid change will help.

Are any of you 6 speed drivers using 2,4,6 only?
Mine seems to shift pretty good while driving unloaded.

Naw. I figured I paid for 1, 3 and 5 so might as well use em.

Your tranny should loosen up after a few thousand miles. It's amazing how much better mine shift now compared to when I picked it up. Also, I plan on switching to Redline MTL, which should smooth things up a bit.

Hello,
For the sake of a rookie new to 6spd. trannies, please explain "Redline MTL"
thanks

My 6-spd has loosened up but the synchro doesn't work so well from 2 to 3. Works better if I short-shift or let it rev out past 2300 rpm. Downshifting 5 to 4 is also ugly.[/quote]Mine was sticky going into 3rd hot and cold; but when I changed out the tranny fluid with Amsoil ASL, the sticky shifting went away.

Re:6 speed shifting

As I read the manual, the manual tranny's are a lifetime fill from the factory. Its not listed anywhere I could find. Auto's and Xfer cases are listed, but no manual tranny's. It does say to check the fluid level of manual transmissions at every oil change. Now if THATs not an incentive to extend drain intervals, I don't know what is.

Mine had been sticky for a while, and with winter and cold weather setting in, I figured it was a good PM opportunity to change it and regain some shifting comfort as well.

Re:6 speed shifting

Mine shifts great. Took a while to get it down when I bought it though.

I love it ;D.

Re:6 speed shifting

My hand shaker was a little sticky when it was new. I now have 5000 miles on it and it is much smoother now. I am also looking at fluid for a change.

My 02 is still a little sticky with 13,000 miles on it, but I am sure it will loosen up after a while.

It seems to me that the cluch does not disengauge quickly. I find a bit of resistence when tring to shift too fast. Holding my foot down a bit or duble pumping the pedel clears that up for me. If there was any thing to do I would try to blead the clutch.

I'v got 1800 on it now and getting used to it or it is getting used to me.

I have a 2003 with 15,000 miles on it and it shifts great, but I have a dumb question what does it mean to short shift?

Short shifting means to upshift as soon as the engine can pull the next gear. There's a fine line between short shifting and lugging.

I just purchased my 2003 duelly 6sp and drove it 1600 in two days to get home. It has 70,000 miles and it shifts great into any gear.

The fluid temperature makes a difference in mine. After say, a 28 mile run on the interstate (preceded by a 20 mile run on a two lane road) mine shifts very easily after the first 48 miles.
