6.7 turbo on a 5.9?

I have access to a brand new O.E. turbo for a 6.7 that I could buy very cheap (and no, its not stolen ). My truck has the 5.9 and I was hoping it might bolt on???

You don't have the electronics to run those variable vanes...I assume somebody may have rigged a way to do that but not sure if it is worth the trouble.

Yeap, you can run it. I don't remember the company that has the electronic controller for it though.

www.fleeceperformance.com sells a stand alone controller for that turbo.

Their website is not fully operational but it sells for about US$500.

Here are the installation instructions:

Those turbo's are readily available everywhere for cheap.
In theory, swapping the 6.7L VGT turbo on a 5.9L should increase power and provide the turbo brake function. In reality it's not really worth it and it's not a common swap.

Thanks for the info. My turbo is currently working good so I was just testing the waters since the 6.7 turbo was available. I thought if it was a direct replacement I would put it on the shelf as a back up. With no super advantages I will pass on it.

Thanks!

Am I missing something here??? More power, exhaust brake function, and looks like a company makes a stand alone controller. Why is it not worth it?

I have all the parts and will be doing this swap on my 2005 truck sometime this winter when I have time. As long as you are not trying to make HUGE gains in fueling and power, this IS a decent swap for the reasons mentioned. You DO get an exahaust brake, quicker spool and more top end power compared to the stock HE351cw. That being said, the vgt turbo is still relatively constricted on the hot side, compared to other single turbos, so it tends to run higher drive pressures, particularly when adding alot of extra fuel. I won't be runnning more then 50 hp sticks, so I am sure that it will work well. One also has the ability, at more expense, to add an adjustable external waste gate to keep drive pressures in check. All that being said, by the time you buy ALL the parts, you can get a nice free flowing turbo that will handle the extra fuel, if you want it, and flow much more air for not much more money ( ttough you will still have to buy an inline exhaust brake to get the braking effect of the vgt turbo) which is why many people do not feel that this mod is worth it for power alone.

Me, on the other hand, can't wait to get it done !!! Got ALL the parts in great condition used on different forums, so I have less then $1000 into it including the Fleece controller and the GDP ProGate...just waiting for the time to install it all!!!
