4x4 high gear auto in sand??

Hi I was wondering if anybody had any insight on this.
I was pulling a boat+trailer in some sand and the tires wouldn't even turn when I was in 4x4 high gear with my 06 auto. The light was on, the brake was off and it was rev'd up to 3k almost. Drive and 1st did nothing but rev. I could feel resistance in the drive train like it was trying to turn them.

I have the rear limited slip as well. none of the tires would turn. 4lo worked fine, But not enough torque or whatever it takes to make it turn the tires in 4high. Is this normal?? it was some thick sand, but the tires were not stuck when trying.

Anyone??
Thanks hopefully

I used to live in FL and drove through all kinds of sand. It is amazing how much resisance it has, if pulling through it I would only use 4 lo in sand, the truck itself 4 hi np. You will burn your trans up in short order if u do that to much, when in doubt 4 lo, takes the stress of the trans. Plus you wont rubber band in the sand. Throttle up till the converter catches then the tires dont just spin they spin so fast they dig to china before u let out lol. 4 lo is your friend.

I've had that same thing happen as well pulling my toyhauler. From a dead stop, it doesn't really want to go anywhere in 4-hi. Maybe they like to be rolling when shifting from 2 to 4-hi ? At any rate, out in the soft stuff with my 11k trailer, I use 4-lo with the tranny in L2.

Sounds like I don't have anything to worry about, thought something might have been broken. Good to go, thanks.

Whenever offroad, unless i'm unladen and traveling at cruising speed, I'll use 4lo, always have, and always will. If I need 4wd, then 4lo is the way to go...
