You can always get a build list from your local dealer to confirm that.

LOL. the auto truck gets around 20mpg running empty at 65mph. the stick gets about 18.5 at the same speed. I also have a much heavier 15000 lb trailer which drops the sticks mileage down to about 13 with the same camper. I wouldn't attempt pulling the 15k trailer with the auto truck. all numbers are hand calculated. the auto is more fun to drive empty. if you are mostly towing with the truck, get the stick , if you are just towing a little, get the auto.
Very good info. Thanks!

Unloaded to appears to be about equivalent especially considering extra wheels and 4 wheel drive.

What do you attribute the better fuel econ while towing w/6spd to?

I pull the same weight trailers there-abouts I have gotten 14.5 with the (-10 K load and 11.5-12.5 mpg w15 K load @ 60-65 MPH in semi flat rolling hills,,

and as bad as 8 MPG running 70-75 in a little bigger hills

18.5 Hwy was the norm empty,,, starting out...

Since my Mods I have gotten 20.8 running empty,,, FWIW!!!! all figures Hand Calculated BTW!!!!

I guess it all boils down to whether you like your truck to run like a bus or a freightliner! With a 6-spd lightly loaded I'll start in 2, shift to 4 at 1900, then 5 or 6 (depending). If there is a lawyer in a BMW behind me, I drive it like a freightliner and run thru all 6 shifting at 1500 just to watch him yo-yoing off the back bumper. Then finish him off with a cloud of diesel smoke for the fun of it!
With a 6-spd you do have options!

On the Dodge website, if you picked the 6sp it would make you switch to 3.73 gears. I may be wrong. How do you know if you have a 4.10? The G56 has a 6. something first gear. The G56 is geared really low. At 70 i'm running about 2200 rpms. And I know I have 3.73s.

IF you are going to mod the crap out of it, twins, etc. Get the Auto. It will outlive the manual in higher HP applications when you mod it. Don't believe me?????? Ask Lloyd Mills...LOL

I like my 6spd but if you don't want to shift, get an auto. An auto would be nice around town but every time I tow, I remember why I gave up on slushboxes. I also didn't want to spend thousands upgrading an auto to take the power I like. I start out in 3rd with my 4.10s (unloaded) and sometimes use only 3,5&6. I've driven the identical truck but with 3.73s and I really preferred the 4.10s which allows for skipping some gears. But my left knee might not allow another manual! Craig

The G56 has a 6.29 first gear. All the websites say the 4.10 is not offered from the factory. With the lower gearing in the G56, it is almost equal to a NV5600 with 4.10s. If someone can prove 4.10s were offered post the website.

I drove one when looking to get a 6-speed before I had my auto built. You will shift all the time. I do however enjoy my built auto. It does great, I tow heavy also. Traffic is not biggy either towing heavy and running up on a 4hrs traffic jam. I see guys clutching and just chuckle, saying thank God I had my auto built....

All depends on how you drive it and how the auto works. I can gross 23k with mine and make a consistent 12-12.5 in good conditions, 11 in most others.

Back up and read the posts, they are no offered on the web site build. The dealer needs to know who to call and how to do it or all you will get is "not available". Its not a great combo anyway as the G56 is to low geared in 6th but if you have a big trailer and upsize the tires its a pulling monster.

I know the factory didn't offer 4.10s. I was just trying to make it clear that they didn't offer 4.10s with the G56. You wouldn't need them unless you pull really heavy loads all the time or have bigger tires.

I have an 05 with the g56 and was told it has the 3.73 ratio in it. Is the correct or what. I think it does because after reading the posts, at 70 mph i am running 2200 rpms. So my question is what size of tire do i need to make it a "pulling monster"? Also I use my truck in the woods and need to be able to throw tire chains when I need too.

well I guess I could be wrong cause that's about what rpm my truck turns @ 70,,, I guess the auto of my buds truck is geared higher!!!!!! cause @ 2K he's running 73 MPH and our tires are the same size????

What size tires are you running????
