48RE Problems...

Guys, I've experienced an issue with my drivetrain twice now. At about 3200km I took off one morning and tranny wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th. I pulled into a DC dealership and they pulled a code P0700. They didn't know what that meant but in the end they replaced the TPS. Just this past week with about 11000km on the truck same thing happened again. I cycled the ignition 3 times and get the P0700 code. I have it booked into my dealership on Monday but my fear is they'll replace the TPS and send me on my way. I won't have any confidence that they solved the problem.<br><br>Has anyone else experienced this???<br><br>Does anyone know what P0700 indicates???<br><br>Thanks...

If your dealer replaces the same part again, you might try a different dealer if the problem repeats for a 3rd time.<br><br>2 cents<br>

Re:48RE Problems...

Thanks guys. I dropped the truck off tonight and told them to make sure they find the source of the problem. If it happens again I said they could buy the truck back!

Re:48RE Problems...

Had the no overdrive, no lockup problem when I left the dealer the first time. Rurned around and went back and they found a bent pin in one of the connectors on the right side of the firewall. They found this by reading the accelerator voltage with the computer and found that the voltage was such that the tranny thought the accelerator was floorboarded all the time. fixed the pin and working fine since.

Re:48RE Problems...

Must be something with the cruise control and overdrive. I had an alarm installed with remote start. Well, they had to put a diode in to delay starting until the glow plugs or whatever they are called now heated up. Everything worked fine but O/D and cruise. Disconnected diode and O/D and cruise worked fine ??? For what its worth.

Thanks N777TC. Last night when I dropped the beast off at the dealership I had also noticed the cruise wouldn't turn on. I assumed that it was locked out in 3rd gear. I haven't herad from the service department yet. Hopefully I get it back tomorrow.

Re:48RE Problems...

I really didn't want to hear of tranny problems!!!
I went through 3 trannys in my 97 Dakota (but I drove the crap out of it!!)
I hope they have the bugs worked out of the trannys now!!
At least there is a 70,000 mile warranty.

Mine had the same problem when I first bought it, would not shift into overdrive, the dealership said it was a bad sensor or wireing harness, the check engine light was on also. they fixed it and it has been fine since.

Re:48RE Problems...

Folks, I just got the truck back tonight. My problem turned out to be similar to yours N777TC. Everyone relax this is not a tranny problem. There is a control module for the engine (JTEC) and one for the tranny. The engine was sending the command to shift from 3rd to 4th but the tranny wasn't receiving it. They pulled the 60 pin plugs at the JTEC and put some dielectric grease on it. Works just fine. Turns out there was likely never anything wrong with the TPS that the first dealership replaced at the 3000km mark.

I asked the service manager to show me the plug so if this ever happened again I could at least pull it and reset it for a temporary repair until I get to the service department again. He also mentionned that I could try pulling the negative battery lead so that the JTEC is reset if necessary. At least this might get us home if necessary. If it happens again they'll replace the JTEG.

For now I'm back on the road......

Re:48RE Problems...

I'm a new member. Yesterday my 3 week old 2003 2500 had the same problem when I drove out that morning it would not upshift. I had 796 miles on the odometer. Took it to the dealer told them about the posts here and they also cleaned out the grease in the connector and plugged it back in. Works ok now. Thanks for the info here. Because of this forum I bought my first new Dodge. I have owned two M-37's and a 1942 WC-51. My last truck was a 95 Chevy 6.5 turbo diesel and I got tired of rolling to the side of the road dead. I replaced 4 injector pumps in 100k miles.
