48RE lock up

48RE lock up
Iam new to the 48RE tranny,how do I know when the torgue coverter locks up and unlocks? How do you make lock up and unlock? Pulling about 9K trailer.

Now, how about that little apple. :P Your manual will explain this quite nicely. The old adage: "when in doubt, read the directions" would probably apply well here. Don't we hate it. ;D

FiverBob The button has nothing to do with torque converter lock or un locking. It shifts from 4th to 3rd gear. Locking out 4th gear. Don't we hate it. <br>I really didn't mean it, must of heard it some were.

Pulling about 9K trailer.<br>[/quote]<br>Its all controled by the computer..or with an aftermarket box like the EMJAY. you have no control over it except to tap the brake pedal will unlock the converter.

Now you know why I bought a 6 speed - - I know what gear it is in. 8) I was assumming this operated as many other autos with the overdrive. When you let up the gas, the thing freewheels. You can feel it go back into overdrive when you again push the accellerator. If you hit the overdrive button, yes, it puts it in third, but it also locks the converter so it does not freewheel. This will hold the converter locked on my Town Car until it hits something like 28 miles per hour, then it again freewheels. My V10 Dodge was that way.
