48re Atf+4???????????

Question 48re Atf+4???????????

I was installing a trans temp sender in the hot cooler line on my '03 Cummins yesterday. Was planning on pulling the line to alter it on the bench, but ATF would not stop draining from the tranny. Did not have any extra ATF on hand, so I just put everything back together after loosing a few ounces. Tried to find the DC recommended ATF+4 at all the local auto parts stores and could not find it anywhere. I was too late for the local dealership. Anyway, I have a some questions.......

1. Is anyone using something other than ATF+4 that is compatible?

2. For those of you who have done this, how much ATF should I expect to lose while the cooler line is off? The line leaves the tranny about an inch above the pan.

3. Is this a DC proprietary ATF??? Can't get it anywhere else???

4. Hate to ask this.... but what about known warranty issues with a non-DC ATF??

From what I have read, you really need to use Mopar ATF-4 only.
I carry an extra bottle with me that I got off the dealer when I bought my 04 305 555.
A little expensive, but a whole lot cheaper than a rebuild.

I have read of a whole lot of serious problems arrising from using other types of ATF.
Just my 2 cents.

I put the massdiesel trans temp line in about a month ago...I bought 2 quarts of ATF+4 from my dealer before I started and only paid a couple bucks ($3 something I think) per quart. In having my line off for about 20 mins at most, I lost a lot of fluid initially, but then the flow slowed. I took a look at what I caught in a drain pan and it was only about 1/3 of a quart. I know some spilled, so I added 1/2 quart and that brought it back to normal. In all the research I did before this install, using ATF+4 was the way to go.

Thanks guys for the input. I picked up a couple of quarts @ the dealer yesterday. Putting in the temp sender this afternoon.
