The Cummins with enough fuel will break anyones auto.
A VB with raised pressures needs to be recalibrated, so just a readjustment isn't enough.
If a company knows how to do the VB 99% of the time a controller isn't needed.
The problem most of us have (assuming here) is that even if we throw a VB at it, it may be too late. I'm picking my truck up with 67k miles hopefully today. At this point, throwing a VB at it with higher pressures might not be "enough". Everything else is worn, internal leaks may arise from added pressures,etc...

What I wanna know is do we need to upgrade anything else because of the VB? Obviously a TC, but what else?

You don't need to "upgrade" anything beyond what I suggested, but, you may want to replace a thing or two.

The direct clutch pack and the front band take the brunt of abuse from the low pressures and computer controlled shifting. If you have to drop the trans for a TC pull the pump and have the clutches checked and possibly replaced. Same for the front band if it shows any sign of abuse.

Running higher line pressures can cause issues with the pump sealing rings also. The Transgo kit gives the buyer a better set of selaing rings that won't deteriorate under higher pressures.

Replace them, the direct clutches, an the parts I listed and you will have a trans that will suit 99% of the use for good long service life. Frequent fluid changes will also be a beneft.

Bolting in a VB is not the same as having an experienced trans guy do everything right from experience.
I believe the 99's did have a clutch seal issue and more pressure did kill it.
Take a chance or do it once/right, is your question right?
I've learned to do it once is best.
I built my trans-with DTT guidance and parts--and have since added power and it has lasted 125,000 with many more. It has towed heavy only a few times. The heaviest was about 16,000 lbs on the hitch.
Still shifts fine.
