47RE to a 48RE
47RE to a 48RE
Any good resourse on the differences of 47RE v. 48RE's on the web; I used google but didn't come up with much.
Is it fairly easy to swap a 48RE in an 03 that has a 47RE? Or would it be just easier to build up a 47RE?
Thanks for any information.

one of the biggest differences is in the front clutch drum. Number of friction plates vs. steels and the planetary gears are slightly different. The 48 RE has a stronger carrier. Other than that, not much difference. The 48 RE is just a little "tougher" in some critical areas for use with the Cummins HO engines.
A 48RE will bolt right in where a 47RE is, or, all the 48RE parts will fit into a 47RE.
