414,000 48re

Just swapped out a trans in an 04 3500 dually. Original 48re with 414K on it. Truck has hauled rv's all over the country since it left the lot. Owner was pleased and said for how he treated it he couldn't believe it didn't die long ago.......by the way, death was caused by a leak and he ran it low frying the OD and seizing the intermediate shaft to the od, and rear piston retainer.

So, if a 48RE is twice as good as a my 47RE then it should last at least 207,000 miles then, right?

Man impressive!! I'd say that'd be one lucky guy right there, I could only hope for a tranny to last half that long.......let alone a truck!!

I keep hearing that the 48RE is better than the Alison Chevy puts in from the transmission shops , I guess this is more proof . I sure would like a little more information , like is truck stock and how it is maintained .

I got a customer with about 275k on an 04' 3500 QC, 4x4, drw, 48re, that is in the horse hauling business. Hauls a 6-horse trailer almost ever mile. He changed the fluid in it at 130k and kept on a truckin. Hasn't touched it sinse. He did have to put a long block in it though from getting his oil changed at Valvoline quick lube and their cheap oil filter coming apart and block oil passages! He brings it to us or does it himself since then.

Are these trucks stock or modded? That is pretty impressive to get over 200k on the trans. Makes me feel a little better about getting the auto.

Prolly did the first change at 90K, another at 220K or so. Making all us guys who are maintenance fools look stupid.

That is quite a testiment to the 48RE, huh? Can't ask for much more than that from a stock auto.
