If you are trying to put it into 4lo in any position except neutral, it doesn't work. If you are in neutral and getting the blinking, it is not shifting and you have another problem to solve.

as they said above, it HAS to be in neutral. 4 HI works fine in gear, but 4 LO has to be out of gear.

Actually,in neutral and ever so slightly rolling, slower than a walk,so that the gears can mesh.NO ROLL and it may not go in.Which leaves a blinking light. If that does not work then you most likely have a problem. It mentions rolling in the owners manual too.But rolling too fast will not work either,it needs to be slower than a walk for mine.

There should be a book in your truck that tells you how to operate the truck. If I were you, I'd read it. Seriously. You're lucky you didn't tear your transfer case apart.

Must be your first 4x4 because all of them are like this.

Glad you didn't tear something up.... I had an employee that tried ramming an older truck of mine into 4lo while he was driving.... The old shift on the floor, and from the other employee with him at the time, I guess he was really grinding gears.... After that it never wanted to stay in 4lo ever. Had to drive with my foot on the shifter.
