Swapped mine to an LSD at about 50k. Majority of heavy hauling and everything looked perfect when it came out.

Bluepp,

No problems here. Why do you ask? Are you having problems or considering buying a truck?

The 11.5 AAM is a well built and strong rear, some of the 4X4 mags have reviewed it and it came out with very high marks. Chevy uses one but with smaller tubes

Need to read the maintenance book on change intervals. Mine calls for a complete change every 15,000 miles for the life of the truck.

Regarding changing the fluid:

These difs don't have a drain plug right? So you need to remove the "back plate" to drain?

So if theirs no drain plug, why go through the trouble of changing the fluid twice with under 40K miles?

Peace of mind.
Alot of people change all fluids after the 1st 500 miles. Then follow the normal maintence schedules. I changed front+rear diffs, trans, transfercase at 30. The sooner the better especially if you plan on keeping truck for a long time. Every piece of metal has irregularities that eventually match themselves to the metal it works with. Thats why theres breakin periods. The metal thats in your oil after break in is not helping you. And people like myself are not comfortable knowing that metal is in there. Plus, when you inspect. you might just catch some odd wear patterns on the gears of a awfull lot of metal in the oil that should not be there and catch a problem before the problem catches you.

25000 and am on the third rear end! 11.5 AAM is no DANA !! We will see if this one is a keeper!I am going to pull a sample and have it checked out and see how much Iron in it!The tech don't like to clean things up before he puts things back together thats why I'm on the third one.He almost found out what it feels like to be hit by a 280 pound ****** off dodge owner!!
