Does the transmission flush do a good job that the dealer does to your transmission and torque converter. Should I of just open it up changed the filter and replaced the fluid myself. This service cost me 199 dollars. How hard is it to replace youir fuel filter and what kind should I get? I am tired of paying so much money to the dealer service center. Any help you guys can give me would be great

On the transmission flush, you can do it yourself if you are careful. Some shops have a machine that does the flush itself, but we always did it the old fashioned way at the racing shop I worked at. Change the filter in the trans. Put your four quarts or whatever it takes on a regular change in the transmission. Then you can take the supply line off of your cooler, and route it to a drain pan. Then get your fluid ready to pour. Have someone start the vehicle, and as the fluid runs out, you pour it in at the same rate. Do this until it looks like new fluid running out of the line. BUT, remember, this will take a lot of fluid. I am not sure how many the dodge trans holds, but a 700r4 can hold about 18 quarts, so the 48re probably holds more than that. After the fluid runs clean, shut the vehicle off and connect the line back up. Then start the vehicle and check and add fluid as needed. You always check the transmission fluid running. That is how I always do it. And I do it at least once a year. Or 15,000 miles. Maybe some think it is too much, but I find it is easier to do than a rebuild. I always hated sanding steels and messing with all of the springs in the valve bodies.
Do yourself a BIG favor, change your fluid and filter yourself and make the tranny last longer. Your dealer is not your friend. Yes the drop and change filter method only will change part of the fluid, but doing it that way will give you a clean filter. the flush only does a half EDIT job, and the dirty filter is still in there and is restricting the flow of fluid to the tourque converter. The "flush" is a smoke &mirror show that the dealer uses to make lots of money.

I do the fluid/filter change once a year in my driveway. It may not change all the fluid out but over the last 3 trucks I have owned I have put probably 400,000 miles on them without so much as a burp from the tranny.
Save the $$ and do it yourself. Tranny flush is a scam.
The fuel filter change on a 3rd gen is a 10 minute job. Do a search of the forums and you will find all you need to know about changing it. DO NOT buy the filter from the dealer. They charge something like $40 for one. Buy from a Cummins dealer or from Geno's Garage for about $10.

I have had good luck with the BG flush machines....no it doesn't change the filterbut it does completely flush the system. My father-in-law was a Ford transmission specialist for 33 years and used BG machines on his personal trucks.
