2100 rpm vibs getting bad
Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
I think there's more than one vibration issue. Some have a vibration at specific speeds. Some have a drone/vibration/knock at a specific rpm band (around 2000 rpm), even in neutral sitting still. An out of balance driveshaft would be a possible cause of the "at specific speed" vibration. I think what most people are referring to in this thread is the "at 2000 rpm" vibration. I have that one and sure would like a fix for it. Mine is there with AC off or on so I can't blame it on that. Mine's there with my foot hard on the pedal or light on the pedal, moving down the highway or sitting still in neutral so I have a hard time blaming it on engine torque causing something to touch the body or putting a strain on the exhaust system hangers or anything like that. It sounds to me like a resonant mode of the exhaust system, anything from the manifold to the tailpipe (though some have put larger exhaust systems on and say they still have the vibe). Or it could be a bug in the fueling software or a problem with the injectors at that particular rpm. Or it could be something totally different. At this point I just don't know and it would take a lot of money and time to swap parts on and off to narrow it down. Hopefully Dodge or Cummins can figure it out.
Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
I got the vib also at 2000rpm mostly in the stering wheel and some in the pedals, I have a HO 6 speed 4x4,,I was looking at the sterring shaft and noticed that there is no rag joint at the box just a solid u joint..Im going to unhock my steering shaft from the box and rev it to 2000rpm and see if the vibs go away from the steering wheel...Just a thought ???
I forgot my truck has 47k miles,, I just bought this truck and love it except for the vibs,, I cant wait till someone finds the problem.

Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
I just bought my 03 HO 6speed 4x4 with 47k miles ,,I was not happy at all with the 2000rpm vibs in the steering wheel ,,I took some zip ties and and sucured the 2 hyrdo boost lines to the + and - batt terminals and tied them up real tight... THis made a big difference on the vibs I feel in the steering wheel,,It helped alot,,,

I was told the TSB to be released next week is a new p/s line,I ordered it ,and had it put on my truck yesterday. It seems to have helped but not eliminated the vibration. In all fairness though this is my 1st diesel,so I'd really like to drive one that doesn't have the vibration to know what's normal and what's not.And I've only driven the truck about 40 miles since it was installed and 1/2 of that was through the infamous So Cal traffic,(a little hard to get to the vibration rpm range at 15-30 mph on the freeway).I'll report further findings after driving it more this weekend.

Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
The TSB is not ready yet. The company doing the testing is American Axle MFG 800-299-2953. The 2000 rpm, 65 mph and up vibration is coming from normal diesel harmonics and the transfer case exciteing the rear driveshaft. The trucks come with a 85 Megahertz dampner with a 34 spline slipe yoke on the driveshaft. The fix for the vibration is belived to be a 385 Megahertz dampner with 34 splines. AAM wanted the 385 dampner on the truck at production, DC went with the small one. The slow down is this, their is no part number on the shelf for a 385 MGH 34 spline dampner. How long, who knows. I think thay need our help. Remember the squeeky wheel gets the grease. Call !!!!!!!!!!! ASAP!!!!!!!!!!
Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
There are two seperate vibrations. One in park in the driveway at about 2000 to 2300 rpm's and one driveline vibe on the road. Hope for a fix to both soon. Other than these two issues this is by far the best truck I have owned! I am on my fourth Cummins Dodge. ;D
Engine Vibration
Here's my take on what's causing the ENGINE-induced buzzing vibration felt through the steering wheel. . .
The new hydroformed frame is stiffer than the previous version and therefore natural inline 6 harmonics, which seem to peak around 2000rpm, resonate more through the frame of the truck. From the frame this is transmitted to the steering column and since it has length and weight for some distance beyond its mounting point it acts to amplify this vibration.
Another possibility is the exhaust system (as mentioned) could be exacerbating this. If the exhaust is heavy and the engine harmonics set it to vibrating too it will amplify the problem. Here is another fix you might try. . .go to a truck shop and get about 1 foot of HD exhaust flex pipe and cut it into the system in front of the muffler. This will help isolate some of the weight of the exhaust from the engine and reduce vibration. The reason I'm mentioning this is one NW Bomber member tried installing a straightpipe on his and had the exhaust angled wrong which put more tension on the turbo outlet and he had a ton of vibes in his steering until he got it fixed right.
I think this is a problem Dodge needs to puruse with different exhaust mounting and motor mount design, not accessory drives and mounts.

Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
just had the TSB done last Friday- new PS line with a heavy weight on it- improved the vibe to a shiver but it's still there and annoying- the fix is right up Rube Goldberg's alley- I think a votech kid could have come up with something a little more fitting for a $40K vehicle- would be ok if the problem was gone- suspect there is another culprit- the tranny?
Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
???I have now removed the front driveshaft in an attempt to diagnose the vibration, since the p/s hose tsb didn't do enough.
It seems to be less vibration once again.Has anyone else tried this yet???

Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
Can you add locking/unlocking hubs to these trucks so the front drive train isn't always turning? The always locked hubs seems like a big step backwards to me.
Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
why would i remove my front driveshaft or deal with locking hubs..i/we dont all have 4x4s and once again it does it in neutral!!!!!!!!!!1 driveline driveline driveline
Re:2100 rpm vibs getting bad
Some have 5 speed, some 6 speed, some 47RE and others have 48RE. then some have 3.73 and others have 4.10 axles.
I have a vibration that begins at 68 mph, is gone at 72 mph. However it is not present on all road surfaces. I am inclined to believe it is caused by a combination of factors including but not limited to the amount of tread and wear pattern on the tires.
