2006 Rough starting question

For the past month or so, my 06 cummins has been coughing and putting out a lot more smoke than it had been in the past when I first start it up in the morning. It runs rough for about 20 seconds or so.
Any thoughts??????
It has 8K on it.

PS: I did the Bully Dog "Try before you buy" promo about 5 months ago. Once the 3 days expired (Loved the power ), it was supposed to have reset it's self back to stock. But, there were a few idiot lights on the dash that stayed on. I had to take it back to the Bully Dog dealer and it took a few tries and a couple phone calls to BD to get them to go away. I'm wondering if the rough starting is attributed to the Bully Dog unit.

Exclamation

Do use any fuel additives. If not you should try some.
Mine did that one time at about 7K but has never happened again.
Most likely it`s one injector no firing intermittently.

check the TSBs as your truck should not have any rough starting issues.....nobody with a 2006 I know personally has had any issues or coughing as you noted.

I would suspect either the BD did not reset completely or you need the TSB for slow starts....

do a scan to make sure there are no codes being thrown and then take it to dealer for the tsbs to be updated.....

Here is a list...

The other day I set my quad race to off to try to get better fuel mileage. Two or three mornings later my truck would run rough for about 20-30 seconds. I filled up that afternoon and added some Power service/Marvel mystery oil. I got out on the road after my fill-up, set the quad to 100 hp and matted it all the way to 90 mph. Next morning no rough Idle!!

Yeah. I think if you don`t blow the crap out now and then you get some carbon deposits. Floor it. It can take it...

I wasn't aware of adding any additives. Any recommendations???
Excuse my ignorance, but what is a TSB or BD ? And how do I preform a scan???
You guessed it, it's my first Dodge and first Diesel

go to the links I gave you above...they are for Technical Service Bulletins....pretty much things that can be fixed on your truck but do not warrant a recall by mfg. Read through the ones on the page....and there are some for slow starts and stuff. Tell your dealer you are having slow starts and rough idling... they will reflash your ECM and check water/fuel separator and few other things.
