2006 owners_does your 48RE do this?
Hounddog, yes the others I drove had the snow plow prep also, it's pretty much a standard feature up here, lol. I recently typed a letter for my dealer to send (email) to DealerCONNECT, explaining the probs ... hopefully THEY can recommend something. At least then it'll be "authorized". I recently learned the reason (so I'm told) why dealers are not too excited about trying to diagnose and fix this type of problem ... they don't get paid for it. They only get paid (a pre-set amt.) when they actually repair/replace something ... they don't get paid for trouble-shooting and they can't just throw parts at something ... or they risk eating it. I kinda understand but ... $$$ ... just cuz there is no DTC why do they always have to tell us that it is NORMAL and to just live with it.
And I think I have bigger probs now, besides the Rev to Drive lurching, ALL the gear shifting is getting worse ... bang-shifts in all gears (1-2,2-3,3-4). Odd, sometimes it shifts gears ok but then I stop at a light, then accelerating thru the gears and I'm right back to the clunky bang-shifts ... downshifts sometimes too ... very inconsistent behaviour.
thanks for the tip, I'll try it.

THEY DO GET PAID for TROUBLE SHOOTING. It takes doing a time stamp and and a decent write up.Documatation! Then the rep comes in monthy or bi monthy and reviews and signs off.Its ENCOURAGED for the tech to document and time stamp so he and the Dealer, service writer etc. GET PAID.Happens every day on unusal items, water leaks, elect.gremlins etc.Sounds like the tranny just plain has issues,Hopefully they'll get to the end of it.I use to get texchs that about I won't get PAID.Well did you do a write up and document what steps you took? NO. I was paid on what they repaired and I was called HOUNDDog cause I stayed on their butt cause I wanted TO GET PAID ALSO.
My 06 has some very firm shifting going on in it. I took it to the dealer and he thought that it was shifting a little "stiffer" than it should be. They ordered a new valve body (that is on back order) to see if that will help the problem. I will report as soon as I get it installed and test.
I would take the Mechanic on a ride in yours, then in another on the lot to show the difference. I owned 2000 Jetta TDI that was doing some wierd stuff and took the mechanic on a test ride to let him see first hand what was going on. Just a thought. JDX
yep, the service manager, mech, and owner of one dealership all together stood right in front of me and told me they "don't get paid for trouble-shooting", didn't make sense to me but who am I, lol.
The mech and I took the truck out ... he had the SmartScan hooked up to check everything while running thru the gears and of course there were no codes, the 'puter showed no problems so he said there was nothing he could/would do (back to the "don't get paid for trouble-shooting"). He agreed that the shifting was very harsh but would do nothing. Had another dealer mech drive it ... same thing ... but it aint over yet. I was hoping they would at least swap out the VB ... I asked ... but no luck yet. I've since been advised that they should check the "electric throttle valve control motor" as this may be causing some of the prob. Anyhow, I'm sure they will get tired of me soon and try something at least
DC will be getting involved soon if not. thanks for the tips.
oh, and I did also have the TSB for the tranny shifting done and it helped some aspects for a while but seems like it got erased somehow now ... back to gear hunting under light accel., etc.
Very anxious to hear how you make out with the new VB goose2!

You need to tell the ZONE REP about the I don't get paid for troubleshooting! Their eaither STUPID or LAZY cause they sure do get paid if they WRITE it up as per the guidelines! Call 1-800-992-1997 and get the ball rolling.
No doubt. If my boss told me to go troubleshoot that airplane and I responded with "I don't get paid for troubleshooting", I'd be loading my toolbox onto my new truck and heading for the house. That's pretty bad on their part. JDX
Mopard, the stinkin part has been on back order for three weeks. That in it's self makes me believe it may be a more common problem than we know about. Who knows, maybe they are changing a few of these out nation wide. Thus the shortage. It may be some time before I get mine put in. But I will be sure to let everyone know the outcome when I give her a test.
Mine '06 was shifting wierd then the CEL came on @ 1790 miles. Code was P1740 (TCC O/D sol. performance). Their machine was broke that was suppose to install new software, or something, in it. Maybe this is some of yall's problem. Hope this helps. Oh, and I do have the snow/plow option.
trans..
I am a member or dodge forums.com I saw something about that exact problem there just a few days ago. I dont remember what the guy said the prob was but I am sure you can probably find the link there. I think that it was under dodge cummins page. I hope this helps.
My shifts are what I would consider normal on all shifts. While in tow/haul the shifts on the way up through the gears are a little harder (a good thing). But still not what I would consider harsh or damaging.
mine shifted iraticly at first, then I went for the hard start reflash, and now it is great? i dont know if that reflash was for the trans as well or if they did something else, i had complained of a clunk from reverse to drive, they said it was ok, but that is much better now as well.
