BTW,....the loud noise you will hear is the CAMARO running OPEN HEADERS against me and NOT my Dodge CTD Pickup!

jdavis:

The 6-speeds do seem to hold up somewhat better that the autos, but they will also slip with added power. My Son has a 2004 Dodge CTD CR with the very tough NV-5600 6-speed and he got to about 75 H.P. above stock when his stock clutch began to slip. He installed a "Haisley Dual-Disc Street/Drag" Clutch and he is now holding a little over 600 H.P.

Thanks Mr. Davis! My best 1/4 mile time has been 11.4@120 MPH and my best 1/8 mile was 6.9@100 MPH. FWIW,....my 1996 is still a full "factory" truck, meaning I haven't done anything to lighten the truck in anyway. If I did that, I could cut those times to low 11's or high 10's. I just don't want to "chop" my pristine 96' up like that.

Here is one more fast Dodge CTD Pickup for you! This is my good friend Dale Smith's 2001 Dodge CTD 4X4 Pro-Street Diesel Drag Truck. This truck can't be driven on the street though. It is strictly a drag race truck. This 1/4 mile run was at "Beech Bend Dragway" in Bowling Green, Ky. and his Son Jimmy ran 9.8 seconds:

Every one of us is laughing right now....

This is where we all started at one time.

These engines will put out like 900 hp in marine applications I was told. I know a lot of guys on here that list their torque output at 1500 lbs because that's all the higher the dyno goes!!!!

Seriously, it is really cheap and easy to add power, GOBS of power and it just starts happening....

I can hardly wait for my injectors to go. I have the tranny, it's just a matter of time now. I'm too cheap to just throw good injectors out, but once they start to fail, well may as well get some bigger ones!!! And a cam and a turbo and a pump and and and!!!!

Yeah I've been that way with my Shelby....I started just wanting 500rwhp.....and now I'm at 847rwhp lol. But for this truck I just want it to look nice and be reliabl.....now if I could get 500-600hp and over 1000tq and its still be as reliable then I'm all for that.....this truck will be my DD and I'd rather look good and get close to 20mpg rather than try to spin the earth everytime I get on it

jdavis, the tranny won't fall out if you step on it wrong The motor is a strong beast. You want to see what it does? Look up "I swoled it again" You keep saying you won't be putting power on it and if that's the case, you'll be fine. But you keep worrying about the tranny like you will be romping on it. So, kinda getting mixed messages here. A good transmission name to look up is Goerend

Anyway, I love my '06. It is my DD, fairly stock. It has been reliable for these last 23k miles (bought w/32, now have 56k). Sure, I've read the forums to keep on top of the typical trouble spots (like #4 injector and loose isolators). Mine has never been loose and it has stayed in tact. I upgraded my steering linkage, a bit of both voluntary and involuntary decision. I had been leaning towards upgrading but soon a broken tie rod end and superseded parts settled it.

The truck has never failed to fire, except when I locked myself out like a goon in a Lowe's parking lot. After a few minutes figuring it out I was on my way.

I have installed a 2mic fuel filter kit to keep fuel as clean as I can. I don't beat on the truck.

The QCSBs have a 1pc dshaft.

06 seats stain if you breathe on them wrong.

No I don't plan on just stomping on it all the time....I've just heard that the autos were weak and the 6 speed were better....but I guess if it does I could just buy a stronger one....just don't want to have to do that right away.....the trucks I've looked at all have between 70k to 100k miles on them

If you're looking at 5-600HP on the truck you will want to go ahead and build the tranny

A general "safe" limit for the stock autos is ~40-50hp over stock. A good programmer will knock that out of the park. If you'll be playing, you'll be paying

So with a shift kit and a aftermarket torque converter....I should be fine with a Smarty Jr and 35" tires???

And when I go look at some trucks with 60 to 100k miles what are something's I should check for that could show signs of a near problem?

Blow by, ball joints, heater/ac blended doors working correctly, rear window leaks, #4 fuel line crack, tight steering no wobble at high speeds, tranny slippage and the usual stuff you would find in any other truck. Look all of these up and you will find detailed descriptions. I found mine with 60k and went through it and bought an extended warranty that has saved me thousands on a few of these (ball joints, hubs, alternator, rear bearing seals etc.).

You may want to look at the 2007 5.9 also. Some of the problems listed above were worked out. The seats don't stain like the 06's and the blend door on the AC was pretty much corrected also. You may even get lucky and find a G56 with the higher .74 6th gear they made right at the very end before the switch over to the 6.7s.

And what's the difference in the 06 and 07s with the 5.9?
