Question 2006 3rd Gen, Pros/Cons

Ok guys/gals. I'm looking at picking up a low mileaged 06, quad, 4x4, auto with big horn package, Inferno red.

Give me some opinions on the good and bad on these trucks, if any. I know the trans is probably going to be the only week area, but I think a deep pan and a upgraded valve body should hold it together. My plans are a leveling kit, 33x12.50R17, Line-X, airhorns, FASS (if needed???) gauges and a smarty.
Thanks

Cons-Uncomfortable seats, lousy upholstery that stains with water, paint thx probably measured in angstroms, mileage not as good as my 05.
Pros-everything else!

I know mileage on all CTD seems to be scattered all over the board. My bro has and 04.5 and his mileage is in the 14-16 area. I have a guy in my chp that is around 20 with his 05. Both have autos with 4.10s. My bro has a SB, the 05 is a LB??? I did notice that the newer seats aren't as large/plush as my 02. But I need the extra room for the kiddys. I want a manual but I don't think my knees are going to take it, arthritus/tendonitus.

my 03 is well over 25 mpg,, (mind you that is with an imperial gallon, not sure how that relates to a us gallon) The only bad thing that I have heard about the 06's was the tranny

Before you buy a used 2006, check the dealer to see what kind of deal you can get on a new one. The discounts are very big on leftover 06 unit`s...

I have an 06. Ive had the abs module replaced under warranty, the dash is coming apart. Im not really of fan of the interior the way its set up I liked my 05 better all around pretty much. Im still not fully in love with the huge headlights. I like my truck but im still a fan of the 05 trks. We will see hold it holds up with about 550hp.

Already tried that. There are no 06s left.

For me when I was looking (Feb of Last year)...

Pros for the 06: I like the headlights and grille

Con: Seating was not as comfortable, Woodrain was way ugly, and it did not have the 7/70 powertrain warranty.

I bought a leftover 05.

I've heard that the 06's are not getting the mileage of the 05's seems to be regardless of the mileage.

I just rode down to a ranchers meeting in a friend of mine's 06 long bed equipped like my truck. I have 25K and he has 40 K on the odo.

He was getting 19 - 20 mpg but I can get only 16 mpg + -. My 05 was better by at least 3 mpg. I guess it's what you're dealt from the factory but my 05 did pick up a few mpg at about 25K. The 06 is definitely less efficient and I'm not sure the marginal increase in torque is worth the trade off.

If they'd focus on efficiency as much as diminishing return torque, I sure would be happier. I can't imagine pulling more than I do off road in 4 x 4 everyday and the 05 was more than enough.

I'm getting really concerned about the 07s as I'll buy a new one in 08' depending on the mpg.

Seats are decent but not great. Drives awesome. Im getting over 16 mpg on the highway now with only 3.5k miles. Front end I feel looks better. My trans shifts ok but I feel all stock trannys suck anyways. I was going to buy a low mileage 05 when I bout mine. They were around 4k less with 20k miles. Mine had 100 miles on it.
