2005 torque conv blown
2005 torque conv blown
Hi, new guy here, I have been reading the forums for a while and I guess with my torque converter blowing uo today made me sign up for some advice.
Anyway, I have a 05 3500 cummins crew 4x4, I have done quite a bit of pulling with it, bobcat and a 14 foot dump traile, and a 30 foot fifth wheel. I have 50,000km on it and today the torque converter called ti quites, kinda surprised me because I thought the dodge was tuffer than that,
So the only thing done to it was I ripped out the muffler type thing and the white fins out of the intake flow line, why, because I was reaing some guys post on here that said he did it and it increased airflow and liked it so my question to you guys is that I am taking the truck in tommoro for warranty on the torque converter I hope doing that little mod wasnt the cause of the blown torque converter and they dont tell to my truck inst warranty because of that, any input sure would help me sleep tonight or if you think I ashould put all that stuff back to stock before I take it in.
I dont even know if they would notice because It doesnt look you need to remove that airflow line to do the warranty work

You should be fine. Neither of those modifications would have anything to do with your failure. They may question if you had the trans serviced at the recommended intervals though..... Just be straight with them though. Tell them the fluid looked good and you had planned on getting it done soon, just hadn't had time. I wouldn't make a big issue about the air tube modification, but I wouldn't deny it either.

Thanks for the tips, Im taking it in right now, I wonder if its worth me supplying a better torque converter and letting them credit me for the stock one they have to replace, I was reading on the forums here last night a ton of guys are getting rid of the stock torque converters, there must be a reason for it, specially if I am going to be towing my fifth wheel all summer and it weighs in at about 12,200lbs, the last thing I need is this again.

If the dealer is going to install the aftermarkket converter, might it be worth you time & money to also change the flex plate now also? it's apart and other than ordering the part won't take an extra 15 minutes to change? Just trying to save future problems for you. It work is done already it isn't a major problem not to change unless you are making many more than stock HP but thinking easially accessable while apart might be time to do the work.

I am in the same boat with mine. My dealer dont know whats wrong with mine. It has to be the converter but it has been about shot for a while I wonder if its done any other damage? They said that they cant find anyone having problems like mine and no record from chyrsler.
That may have not been there exact words about the converter but they have called chrysler to tell them what the truck is doing and just trying flashes and little fixes. I have a truck out there right now that I hate to drive or be in. I turn the radio up so I dont have to hear this thing change gears all the time. I have 7k miles on her and its been to the dealer 5 times for the tranny, brakes, codes, bad fuel miliage.
