2005 shuttle shifting

Well, my truck has occassionally done the 1-2 hunt thing at light throttle before. Now that I've got about 78K on the clock, it's getting annoying. Can I do the pressure solenoid myself? How much do they run, and is there a source other than the dishonnest shops that say Dodge on them?

They are very easy to replace. Drop the pan and they are right there to swap out.

Your local trans supply store, maybe even parts store, will have or be able to get them. I payed around $80 for both locally.

You know what's odd, is that it doesn't do this if I have the tow/haul on. Wonder if the a cable adjustment would fix things? Does the 05 even have a cable? I do have a friend who runs a trans shop, so maybe he can get the part for me cheaper than the "dealer".

No cable, no adjustments. Its a pressure vs throttle position vs TV position thing. Even the solenoid and transducer may not cure it. Occasionally it take smore work to totally fix it.

I have a 06 Auto that is doing the same thing. Only difference is it is still doing it after a complete rebuilt of the tranny by dodge. Only have 30,000 miles on the truck. Anyone have any other suggestions of what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also strong smell of trans fluid in cab after driving.

If it is a stock rebuild its the nature of the beast. You have to upgrade and add some pieces to get rid of it.

bnorton,
what was the reason dodge rebuilt your tranny? I'm only curious because I had P1740 code come up on mine and now they want to completely rebuild it. 34k on the truck. I have cleared the code and it hasn't come back.

My buddy had the TSB done to his 05.

It still does it, but at least in his case the TSB was done for free

The shuttle shift has it roots in the mismatch between TV position and pressure. The TV position is controlled by the ECU. You can influence it using DTT's Shift Enahnser. To influence the pressure and rise you need to modify the VB with a shift kit to make it work better.

I am running both with good results. The only problem is the higher pressures of the shift kit tend to show up the other weak spots in the transmission, like seals and sealing rings. It is pretty common to put a shift kit in a 10k later start having shift issues. Since you have a newly rebuilt trans you wil probably be OK for a while.

The shift enhanser is less intrusive and if it solves the problem won't impact the stock build.

coparam4x4 I took the truck in for the trans slipping and a bad smell of burnt trans fluid. The dealer torn down the trans and found the fluid burnt, rear clutches burnt, front hub bushing scored, and some scoring on pump hub.

no 6 oh no thanks for this info. I will have to look into that kit, since it sounds like from everyone else this problem will never go away. Wish dodge could get these problems worked out.
