Thumbs down 2004.5 fast idle question

Posted this on another board but looking for confirmation here also so I can go to the dealer and b#$&h at them.

Have a 2004.5 and the cold weather fast idle works fine. Read the TSB18-004-04 but my engine serial number is after the listed numbers. Went to the dealer and his response was no it won't work on your truck.

Would like to enable fast idle on the cruise control but still not sure it is an available option on this truck 325/600 engine.

Thanks for your reply if you know for sure.....Don

Don yes it will, just go in and complain about poor cab heating. the tech only has to enable it, then you can use curse control buttons to control it. Don't mention the TSB until they have the funny look on their face HuH?

Thanks...

Have been to 2 dealers, one here in Mich and a few weeks ago one in Brandon Flordia. Both said that it wasn't avaiolable so guess i have to find one that knows the ECM well enough to enable it.

Thanks for the reply.

Go here and print out the TSB, then bring it to the dealer.

Most dealers are familiar with these. Mine took the TSB from me, gave it to the tech and it was done in 10 minutes.

The -004-04 TSB is only applicable to the '04 trucks with automatic. Not the '04.5. The only difference is the '04s must have software downloaded to the ECM before the "enable" process takes place. donhov, the '04.5 already has the software in the ECM. Only the enable has to be done. So,.... the 004-04 TSB doesn't apply to the '04.5s. It's not necessary. Just go to your dealer, complain about poor cab heat and ask to have the cruise button controlled high idle feature enabled. They can do it.

bigman you say your six speed has the high idle feature. Is this the one controlled by the cruise buttons or the one that kicks in automaticly based on ambient temp? If based on temp, that's not the topic of discussion. They all have that. If it works using the cruise buttons, yours is the first manual trans Ram I've read about that has that feature. Yours must be something special!!!

I had on 05 6 speed when the 05s first came out. It drove me nuts around town so i bought a ford 6.0 liter auto and had nothing but trouble. Came back to a cummins with the 48re and have been happy ever since. Well after i made some tranny mods. I was not impressed with the 48re in stock form.

You think you had it hard explaining poor heat in the summer? When I had mine done (for free btw), I was living in Key West where the all time record low is 45. Even though it snows occasionaly where I live now, we NEVER get hurricaines!!! I just told 'em I was visiting my grandkids in Michigan when I had the problem. Sort of true.

I was aware of the feature through reading forums and simply asked my dealer to do it. They did it without question, or charge.
