2003 transmission issues

I have an 03 2500 truck I was just driving down the road at 65 mph and all at once it was like my truck went into natural and coasted to a stop. I had nothing in any gear the truck never made any noise it was like the pump or converter had gone out. So I towed it to a shop and they looked at it and said I had some burnt clutches so they replaced them. I went and picked the truck up and it drove like a new one and shifted great it was about a 45 mile drive with no problems the next I left for work and made it about 5 miles and the truck did the exact same thing happened. So I towed it back to the shop and they are thinking I might have something wrong with my transfer case but I'm still thinking it could be my converter. any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is a tough one. Even with a bad converter, you should get some motion. Before you said they replaced clutches, I was thinking you broke an output shaft.
The xfer case is pretty rugged and fails are not common.

I really don't have an answer for you... but will give a bump

my 04.5 did what you first described. The *********** put in a new torque converter. It made it not even 100 miles, started having more problems. I took it to an actual trans. shop, they pulled it out and I don't remember all of the details, but something along the lines of the *********** didn't completely flush the trans when they did the new torque converter and some of the converter shreds got stuck in the valve body... or something to that effect. Either way cost me a whole new build because they were worried pieces were elsewhere inside. So, make sure they check there isn't any stray junk floating in your trans in the end.

Mine did the same thing this summer while towing my trailer. Went to leave from a stop sign and half way through the intersection I lost everything. After letting it sit for a while it did begin to move again. After having it towing to the shop they found the clutches totally fried. They said it would cost more to take it apart and try to clean it than just replace it. 6K later we were on the road again. Good Luck

Might suggest finding a local trans performance shop and do a rebuild similar to this on your 48RE. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/48...ld_at_PATC.htm
