high pitch whine
Took my new CTD for reflash last Friday. Haven't had time to check mileage, but will tomorrow. Question: I hear a high pitched "whine" whenever I accelerate. I hear it mostly at around 1600 rpm's. It is very high pitched and not constant. With window down (like when parked in the garage) I can't hear the whine. Going down the highway at 55, I push on the pedal and hear the whine (seems to be coming from right side of cab). The whine doesn't get louder when I accelerate. Guess if my hearing goes, it wouldn't be a problem. First Diesel so just curious. Otherwise, Wow what a ride!

Errm.... this wouldn't be the turbo now would it?
sounds something like a mack truck that passes you by. If it is that is normal, the sound of lots of air being sucked up at once....

Doesn't that TURBO sound SWEET
You got to love the sound of that beast spinning up and giving you that
on your face.
YEP it's NORMAL. you may also want to ckeck you turbo hoses to ensure that are all tight.

your turbo isnt going bad or anything like that, its the awsome sound of a spooling turbo, its normal, (if ya want to hear a real cool turbo noise, take out the silencer ring and add an aftermarket intake)

Thanks to all for the responses. I took the truck for a long drive down the Seward Highway here in Alaska and got "used" to the sound. It sounds like a "whistle" that changes pitch with acceleration or deceleration. I put in an old Jim Reeves "Best of "CD, turned up the volume and that solved the problem. Again, thanks to all for the help. Those of us new to CTD trucks appreciate all the advise and help.

AirGrabber and Dodgezilla, . Now that I know there is nothing wrong with this "Bad Boy Diesel" I can't wait to hit the road again! I train new drivers how to inspect and drive 45 foot MCI tour buses around the state state of Alaska, but the Detroit Diesels on our buses are way in the back so can't hear the whistle of their turbos. Love this truck and now love the sound of a turbo!
