So, if you get an '03 HO, you should have the 48RE. Check the engine plate. Personally, I wouldn't have traded my 98.5 for a SO 3rd Gen (305/555 vs 235/460; basically what I had already).

You are correct. i ordered mine in feb. ALL HO`s have the 48re
you have it wrong in terms of the SO. The SO has 250HP....the CALI version has 235
I just sold my 99 for a 2005. My 99 had more power and got better fuel economy, but it rode like a tractor. The 05 handles and stops much better. Plus the ride is much smoother. I like the 4 real doors too. The power I can fix real easy, but the fuel economy is another story all together.

I think (therefore I am) I got the last SO (250) w/48re they made. My daughter got an '05 1500 w/hemi last week. After driving hers, I wouldn't trade her even up for my little SO. Zero problems (knocking on wood) so far.
I have 47000 miles on my RED RAM and It has done great! I tow very large loads 25,000 - 30,000 on and off and have been very impressed with the performance, especially after the TST PowerMax CR!!!! WOWWWWWW! If you want more HP go TST, the only issue I have had is the defrost/heater flap control, sometimes I have probs with it getting stuck in heater or defrost and cant immediately change the setting, but it does seem to eventually change this just happened in the last 10,000-5,000 miles. I won't complain about that to much I have really enjoyed this thing (family included). two more warranty issues the altenator bracket was cracked and DC covered it, and I had a U-joint go out under warranty (It appeared to have never had grease in it) that cost me $100 then warranty kicked in. (the U-joint was $119.00 just to buy it out right so I decided to let them put it in.....)
