2003 48RE revs, then grabs in first

Hey all. When I first start out from a stop, or when I'm starting at slow speed after coasting for a while, the engine free revs to about 2600rpm, then the trans grabs hard with a shudder. It sometimes oscillates slightly between first and second.

The rest of the gears seem to act normally.

I don't know the history of the truck beyond about 50km back. It's been fine until now. I haven't done a band adjustment even...wondering if it sounds like a good place to start or??

Thanks,

Chay

Moron Alert.

Yeah, if the tranny is almost dry it might affect the operation of said tranny.

Added some fluid and it shifts like new.

Funny thing is that I used to check it all the time, then got out of the habit due to it always being fine...that'll teach me!!

Now to find the leak...it's not obvious at all.

Glad to hear you solved the issue, and thanks for letting us know what it was. We all make mistakes.

Good luck finding and fixing the leak. Let us know what you end up finding.

Under the driver side wheel well there are a couple of rubber lines to the front mount air to oil cooler...they have been rubbing...

99% that it's there. Incidentally, it's right under the power steering resevoir, which is what I thought was leaking...old trucks are fun!!
