2001/2006 filters interchangeable???

Just bought an 06 MegaCab.

Will my oil and fuel filters left over from the 01 model work on the 06 model?

Genos has some differences in the oil filter but look the same.

Thanks

I was in the same boat a month ago if you look at my sig.

Fuel filters are the same.

Oil filters are not.

Have a good one.

If we are talking Fleetguard Stratopore oil filters, the only difference is a fluted cannister vs smooth and a higher price.

Geno's lists the LF3894 for 98.5 thru '02 at $9.95.

They list the LF16035 for '03 thru '07 for $11.95. There is a note on this filter that says it can be used on all 89 thru 07 CTDs.

If that's true, the the converse is true. I've been using the LF3894 on my 04 since new.

So, IMO, you can use your 01 oil filter on your new truck with no problem. But, that's JOIBO! YMMV.

There has been discussion recently about changes in the filtration size on Fleetguard fuel filters. From 10 micron to 7. Just because I'm cheap and hate to throw good stuff away, I'd probably use the fuel filters, but change 'em more often, then go to the latest micron size rated.

You didn't mention the brand of filters, so all this discussion is on Fleetguard stuff.

Yeah, there seems to be some inconsistency between dealers if you ask about the fuel filters. (7 vs. 10 micron) Personally, I run the 7 micron in my truck. I DO NOT want to have an injector or pump failure and have to argue with the service manager about warranty considerations. I bought filters for my truck just yesterday and they did not have any LF16035 in stock, so I had to buy a LF3972. I checked it on Cumminsfiltration website and it does interchange to a LF16035, but does not use the STRATOPORE media, it uses a more conventional CELLULOSE media.
On a good note, I got the oil, air, and fuel filters for $30.00.

Did you ask 'em about the LF3894? It's exactly the same as the LF16035 except for the smooth cannister vs fluted. I allways keep several fuel and oil on the shelf so I don't run into the problem you did, having to settle for something less than what I wanted.
